Adeel Malik is a development macroeconomist with a strong multidisciplinary orientation. His research focuses on long-term development, political economy and economic history, with a particular emphasis on Muslim societies. He conducts cross-country empirical studies on development, combining quantitative and qualitative research methods. In particular, his recent article on ‘The Economics of the Arab Spring’ won the Best Article Award and has been translated into Arabic and other languages and recognized in The Economist. Dr. Malik is also researching the interaction between religion, land and politics in Pakistan as part of a project funded by IFPRI. He holds a Globe Fellowship in the Economies of Muslim Societies at the Oxford Centre for Islamic Studies and serves as Associate Editor of the Palgrave Dictionary of Economics (Middle East Economics and Finance). His research on the political economy of the Middle East has been featured in CNN, Fortune Magazine and other major media outlets.
