Dr. Mehmet Artik

Islamic Political Economist, Researcher and Educator

Mehmet ARTIK is a passionate Islamic political economist with over seven years of experience in Islamic political economy. He successfully completed his PhD in Islamic finance and economics at Durham University. His research interests focus on the complex relationship between knowledge and power in the context of political economy, and emphasize the role of discourse theory and critical theory in understanding the dynamics behind existing bodies of knowledge. Mehmet’s specialization is in exploring the hegemonic role of structural forces in shaping the articulation of Islamic finance and economics. His work examines the interconnected roles of sociology, economics, politics and religion in constructing an interdisciplinary body of Islamic knowledge. Challenging the dominance of capital and labor in conventional economic discourse, Mehmet advocates for the articulation of an impartial and inclusive economic system based on Islamic principles. In addition to his expertise in Islamic political economy, Mehmet has further enriched his academic and teaching portfolio by teaching various conventional economics and finance courses at Durham University for several years.
