About Us
The Ummetiks Institute is a research organization that conducts studies on the thought and practice of the Ummah.
Our aim is to empower Muslims to realize a holistic Islamic civilization for the benefit of the Ummah and all humanity.
The term “ummetiks” means the ummah in the same way that “political science” means the city-state or nation-state.
Contrary to the popular connotations of “political science”, Ummetiks is about the preservation of the divine message (iqamat al-din/replacement of religion), is concerned with the fulfillment of the duty of caliphate on earth and the establishment of justice and welfare in accordance with the divine command. Ummetiks, therefore, deals with the social issues related to the Ummah of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ and is an umbrella term for the discourses, beliefs and practices that address, comprehend and guide the Ummah, its divine mission, sociocultural, political, moral and religious issues.

“And thus We made you a moderate community, that you may be witnesses to humanity, and the Messenger may be a witness to you.”
At the same time, we argue that the thoughts, feelings and lifestyles of the members of the Ummah are essentially Ummah-centered. Therefore, the Ummah is at the center of our work as a unit of analysis, an ideal and a powerful actor that can change the world.

The term “Ummah Studies” offers the advantage of focusing our attention on issues specific to Islamic tradition and Muslim history. For more information, you can check out our article titled “What is Ummah Studies?” The Ummah Studies Institute is a research institute that conducts studies on the thought and practice of the Ummah and aims to empower Muslims on the path to achieving a holistic Islamic civilization. We do not see ourselves as a privileged pioneer, but as one of many studies that support Muslims in addressing their own issues with the consciousness of the Ummah. The Institute for Ummah Studies publishes research articles and essays, holds regular seminars and conferences, develops and publishes educational curricula, and undertakes other related initiatives. Publications on our website are broadly of two types: research articles and guest contributions. Research articles are works produced or commissioned by the Institute, have undergone extensive review and editorial control, and represent the views of the Institute. Contributions by guest authors are published in line with our commitment to fostering dialogue on Ummah thought and practice. Our public forums are designed to bring together scholars, researchers, and thinkers from universities and think tanks around the world to brainstorm on important issues. These forums are spaces for dialogue, discussion, and debate, to test new ideas and revise old ones. The opinions expressed in these forums and in the writings of guest authors do not necessarily reflect the views of the Institute.
We are neither an activist organization nor affiliated with any movement. As an independent research institute, we focus on knowledge production and discourse development. Generations of scholars, institutions and social movements, including different political, academic and spiritual movements in Muslim societies, have defended the Islamic Ummah against external threats and internal corruption, advancing the cause of Muslim unity and Islamic development. We build on their legacy, constructively criticize and develop their contributions, and bring them into dialogue with each other and with contemporary human knowledge.
We believe that sound Islamic knowledge and a deep understanding of the reality that Muslims live in are necessary for the revival of the Ummah. We believe that a good theory is the most practical tool. The discourse of Muslims must be based on the universal knowledge of revelation, as well as being dynamic, academically strong, clear and solution-oriented. In this context, we offer a platform for the thinkers, pioneers and visionaries of the Ummah to learn from their past, analyze their present and design their future in line with their own values. We also believe that no institution can revive the Ummah alone. Many efforts are necessary for a permanent change. We also aim to contribute in the field of discourse and knowledge production.
We are aware of these challenges. Therefore, we begin by examining these issues, gathering available resources, and evaluating how we address them with our Muslim identity. At the same time, we have full confidence in the importance, benefit, and bright future of Islam for humanity. In line with this optimism and Prophetic guidance, we believe that learned helplessness is the biggest obstacle that prevents many Muslims from acting purposefully and unitedly. The Ummah has abundant material and spiritual resources to fulfill its divine mission. The Ummah Research Institute provides a platform to design and shape a better future for the Ummah. We believe that by taking a long-term perspective, we can effectively identify, analyze, and share information on these challenges, and ultimately produce practical solutions by expanding the capacity of the Ummah over time.
