Islamic Norms

The study of Islamic Norms addresses questions and problems related to the discourses of Islamic tradition by placing them within the model of the Quran and the Prophet.

This field covers a range of topics related to usul al-fiqh, usul al-din and fiqh, with attention to components that are relevant to the thought and practice of the Ummah. This is achieved through and alongside valuable contributions from Islamic and religious studies, primarily from traditional Islamic scholarship and academia.

The Ummah Institute is committed to the Islamic normative tradition based on the Quran and the Prophetic model. As such, it focuses on the study and discourse of Islamic norms. These Sharia norms constrain and guide the social and political aspirations and actions of the Ummah.

While some of these norms are matters of clear, basic consensus, many are subject to variation and academic thought, debate, and discourse. We aim to facilitate and advance the latter.
