Society and Civilization
Our work on society and civilization aims to connect theory to practice by exploring the multiple opportunities and obstacles to unity in Muslim regions.
This discipline focuses on how ummah solidarity can and does enliven Muslim life, and how the ummah is theorized, conceptualized, and informs the lived experiences of Muslims. In addition, concepts and strategies for social transformation are addressed through interactions with classical and contemporary Islamic thinkers who have considered historical, cultural, and social patterns of change, and with modern social theories, concepts, and disciplines such as futures studies, cultural studies, and systems thinking. Our aim is to provide multidimensional and multilayered micro, meso, and macro meta-analyses of issues affecting Muslim societies in majority and minority contexts.
